Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI): Excellence in Architectural Ironmongery

The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) stands as a pivotal institution representing the architectural ironmongery industry. Established to advocate for the industry’s interests, GAI ensures adherence to BS EN standards and regulations for ironmongers, wholesalers, and manufacturers. Renowned for its commitment to education, technical support, and community, GAI’s qualifications, educational offerings, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs are held in high regard both in the UK and internationally.

Key Aspects of GAI Certification

1. Examination Integrity and Procedures

GAI emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity of its examination process. Candidates are required to notify the Test Administrator immediately of any issues encountered during their exam to ensure timely resolution.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policies

  • Cancellation: Candidates must cancel their exams at least 48 hours before the scheduled appointment. Cancellations can only be approved by GAI, and candidates should provide relevant medical evidence for any cancellation requests. All cancellation requests must be reviewed and approved by GAI before scheduling a new exam.
  • Rescheduling: If you receive a cancellation notice from Pearson VUE, contact the GAI Head Office for authorization to reschedule.

For detailed cancellation and refund policies, contact GAI directly.

2. Certificate in Architectural Hardware (CiAH) Examination

The CiAH examination is meticulously designed by GAI’s Examination Committee and is offered in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Provides foundational knowledge in architectural hardware.
  • Stage 2: Builds upon Stage 1, with marks from the first stage carried forward to contribute towards the Certificate in Architectural Hardware.

Successful completion of both stages of the CiAH provides a comprehensive understanding of ironmongery, including relevant standards and regulations. Graduates are well-prepared to further their expertise through the GAI Diploma program.

3. Scheduling Your Examination

Before scheduling your CiAH exams, ensure that your enrolment is approved by GAI and that all fees have been paid. New exam takers need to create a Pearson VUE web account. Appointments can be booked up to 48 hours in advance.

Upon booking, Pearson VUE will provide a confirmation detailing your test date, time, test centre address, and contact information. Remember to verify that you are scheduled for the correct examination and bring two forms of personal identification to the test centre—one must include a photo.

4. Special Accommodations

GAI is committed to inclusivity and offers support for candidates with disabilities or special needs. To request accommodations, such as extra exam time, notify GAI before booking your exam by emailing education@gai.org.uk.
