South Carolina Department of Insurance: Exam Registration and Scheduling Guide

Overview

The South Carolina Department of Insurance offers a range of exams to help you achieve certification in the insurance industry. Whether you’re aiming to start a new career or advance in your current role, our exams are designed to meet rigorous industry standards. Below, you’ll find all the essential details for registering, scheduling, and preparing for your examination.

Essential Registration Information

To ensure a smooth testing experience, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Identification Requirements: On the day of your exam, you must present one valid, government-issued photo ID that includes your signature. The name on your ID must match exactly with the name on your exam registration, including any suffixes such as “Jr.” or “III.” Failure to present the correct ID will result in denied admission and forfeiture of the exam fee. For detailed information on acceptable forms of ID, consult the Candidate Handbook (available soon).
  2. Account Verification: Before scheduling your exam, verify that your Pearson VUE web account is set up with your legal name as it appears on your government-issued ID. This ensures that your documentation and records are accurate. If you notice any discrepancies, contact Pearson VUE immediately to update your personal information.

Exam Scheduling and Testing Options

You have two primary options for taking your South Carolina Department of Insurance exam:

  1. In-Person Testing: Exams are available at Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers across South Carolina. This traditional testing environment offers a controlled setting to complete your certification exams.
  2. Online Testing with OnVUE: For added convenience, you can opt for online testing through the OnVUE system. This option allows you to take the exam from the comfort of your home. However, ensure you meet the system requirements, including having a private, distraction-free environment. A system check will verify your computer and internet capabilities, and you’ll be monitored by proctors and assistive AI tools throughout the test. For more details on online testing requirements, visit the OnVUE System Information Page.

Scheduling Your Exam

  • Advance Scheduling: Appointments can be scheduled up to one calendar day before your desired test date, subject to availability. You can book your exam either online or by contacting Pearson VUE customer service.
  • Important Considerations: Ensure your Pearson VUE account is accurate and up-to-date. Any discrepancies in your personal information can affect your test registration and results.

Rescheduling and Cancellation Policies

  • Rescheduling: If you need to reschedule your exam, you must do so at least 48 hours before your appointment. Failure to reschedule in time will result in a forfeiture of your exam fee, and you will need to wait six months before reattempting the exam.
  • Cancellation: To cancel your exam, contact Pearson VUE at least 48 hours in advance. Cancelling less than 48 hours before your appointment or failing to appear will also result in the forfeiture of your exam fee, and you’ll need to reapply to take the exam after six months.
