NETA (InterNational Electrical Testing Association) provides industry-recognized certification programs for electrical testing technicians, reflecting their expertise and commitment to maintaining high standards. These certifications are based on the ANSI/NETA ETT Standard and are administered through Pearson VUE. This guide will walk you through the certification process, including registration, exam scheduling, and preparation.

Certification Levels Offered by NETA

NETA offers four levels of certification to acknowledge the proficiency of electrical testing professionals:

  1. Level 2: Certified Assistant Electrical Testing Technician
    • Focuses on foundational knowledge and skills necessary for supporting electrical testing tasks.
  2. Level 3: Certified Electrical Testing Technician
    • Validates intermediate skills and knowledge required for performing electrical testing independently.
  3. Level 4: Senior Certified Electrical Testing Technician
    • Demonstrates advanced expertise and the ability to manage complex testing scenarios and lead testing projects.

How to Register for a NETA Certification Exam

1. Employment Requirement:

  • Candidates must be employed by a NETA Accredited Company to be eligible for certification exams. All registrations are processed through the NETA Accredited Representative or Technician Representative at these companies.

2. Creating a Pearson VUE Account:

  • To schedule an exam, candidates must create a Pearson VUE account. Ensure your NETA ID and name match exactly as they appear on your NETA exam authorization email. This account will be used for all future exam scheduling and score viewing.

3. Locating a Testing Center:

  • Use Pearson VUE’s website to find a nearby authorized test center.

4. Scheduling Your Exam:

  • Log in to your Pearson VUE account to select a suitable date and time for your exam. After scheduling, you will receive a confirmation email from Pearson VUE with all necessary exam details.

Rescheduling or Canceling Your Exam

Rescheduling:

  • More than 24 Hours in Advance: Reschedule through Pearson VUE or by phone with an Early Rescheduling Fee of $100.
  • Less than 24 Hours in Advance: Requires NETA office authorization. The rescheduling fee is $125. Contact NETA at (888) 300-6382 or neta@netaworld.org.

Canceling:

  • More than 24 Hours in Advance: A refund of $200 is available if you cancel via Pearson VUE.
  • Less than 24 Hours in Advance or No Show: No refund is provided.

Exam Preparation & Study Resources

Study Materials:

  • Visit NETA’s Exam Preparation page for access to study guides, detailed content outlines, formulae sheets, and reference lists.
  • A Practice Exam is available for $100, offering one hour of exam simulation and 60 days to review results.

On the Day of the Exam

Arrival:

  • Arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your scheduled time. This allows you to complete sign-in procedures without rushing.

Identification:

  • Bring one form of ID for verification. You will also need to have your digital photo taken, palm scanned, and provide a digital signature.

Late Arrival:

  • If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may be denied admission and may forfeit your exam attempt and fees. Review the Global ID Policy for additional details.
