However, it is essential to understand that ABCP certification is not a job requirement nor does it grant additional privileges or define the scope of work for perfusionists. Rather, it reflects the individual’s qualifications as recognized by their peers and serves as a benchmark for professional excellence.

Employers are responsible for defining specific job responsibilities and expectations for cardiovascular perfusionists within their clinical environments. The ABCP certification ensures that perfusionists are equipped with the essential knowledge and skills, but it does not dictate their day-to-day tasks or employment terms.

Application Process for ABCP Certification

  1. Complete Your Application: Before scheduling your examination, ensure that you have completed the ABCP application form and paid the required fee. You must also meet all the qualifications and receive an Authorization-to-Test (ATT) email.
  2. Examination Scheduling: Once you receive your ATT email, you can schedule your examination. The email will include a 20-character candidate number (PTI ID) and a date range for your test. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be booked up to one business day in advance.
  3. Scheduling Tools:
    • Online: Create a Pearson VUE web account using the same name and PTI ID provided in your ATT email. For assistance with your Pearson VUE account, use the online chat feature for prompt support.
    • Phone: Call Pearson VUE at 877-839-7768 (US/Canada) for scheduling, rescheduling, or cancellation needs. Mention that Professional Testing (PTI) sponsors the ABCP – PBSE and CAPE exams to help locate your record efficiently.
  4. International Candidates: If you are outside the US or Canada, refer to Pearson VUE’s customer service for the appropriate contact numbers.
  5. Confirmation and Reminders: After scheduling, Pearson VUE will send you a confirmation email detailing your examination date, time, and test center address. This email will also include important policies and procedures. If you do not receive a confirmation, check your appointment status online or contact Pearson VUE for verification.
